Liposuction contours your body and removes unwanted fat from specific regions. When diet and exercise are ineffective at helping you lose fat, liposuction can target local fatty areas and improve the shape of your body.
The procedure permanently removes fat from the body but the fat cells that are left over can expand if you gain weight afterward. Liposuction is a way to sculpt the body and should not be sought after to lose weight. In fact, most patients who undergo the procedure will maintain their same weight but achieve a more proportional figure.
Without a consultation, it may be difficult to determine whether the unwanted fat on your body would respond to liposuction. Mr Ritz will help you decide whether the procedure will benefit you by explaining what happens during surgery. You will also discuss what you can expect once liposuction is complete and review the risks involved.
Mr Ritz will take a look at the areas of your body that are causing concern and create a plan for surgery that helps you attain your desired outcome. He will also assess your medical history to make sure you are healthy enough to undergo liposuction.
Two weeks before your surgery, you will see Mr Ritz for a second consultation to discuss additional questions and review your procedure.
During the surgery
You should admit to surgery 30 minutes before your procedure is set to begin. You will meet with Mr Ritz beforehand who will mark the fatty deposits being treated. An anaesthetist will also speak with you to explain the process of going under for surgery which will be in the form of general anaesthesia.
During surgery, Mr Ritz will create tiny incisions in the particular region of fat being treated. He will inject a tumescent fluid into the incisions to help break down the fat and use a cannula to remove it with the aid of a suction machine.
Mr Ritz will manually pass the cannula back and forth until enough fat is eliminated and he achieves an ideal curvature for your body. Afterward, you will be transferred to a private hospital room to recover for a few hours.
To help reduce any swelling, you will wear a compression garment which you will continue to wear for six weeks. The compression garment will help support the treatment area and create the best contour for your body. Mr Ritz will see you for weekly dressings as you continue to heal.
Post operative care
For the first two weeks after surgery, you will not be permitted to drive and you should take this time to rest as much as possible. It’s also essential that you refrain from any strenuous activity like exercise or heavy lifting for at least six weeks or at the discretion of Mr Ritz.
