How Does Liposuction Work?

Life can be full of fun, outdoor activities with family and friends. Hitting the beach in the warm weather months seems to be a favorite among every generation. But when you’re uncomfortable with the way that you look, it can be embarrassing to sport revealing bikinis, tanks and shorts. In a world that seems to be celebrity-obsessed, it’s normal to find yourself comparing your imperfect body to those of others.

The best ways to enhance your outward appearance is by incorporating healthy options into your everyday routine. Sometime, though, regular exercise and balanced meals aren’t enough to enhance your outward appearance. When combined with a healthy lifestyle, a liposuction procedure can be a great way to boost your self-confidence.

At Ritz Plastic Surgery, we offer liposuction to patients of all walks of life. This surgical procedure works by using a power assisted suction cannula to remove unwanted fat. While it won’t remove all your cellulite and shape every single problem area, liposuction is a promising way to get rid of the larger amounts of subcutaneous fat that seems to cause these noticeable unsightly areas.

The Procedure

During your initial consultation, you will meet with Dr Morris Ritz to discuss the areas you would like to have fat removed. Many of our patients request liposuction on their thighs and stomach, but it can be done on almost any area of the body, including:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Arms
  • Thighs
  • Stomach
  • Back
  • Buttocks
  • Ankles
  • Calves
  • Hips
  • Knees

Dr Ritz will take the necessary time to not only explain the results you should expect but also how to maintain it. He will then draw up a plan to help you achieve realistic results.

When you come in for the procedure, you will be placed under a general anesthetic. Once asleep, tiny incisions will me made around the areas that are in need of fat extraction. He will then inject a fluid called tumescent into the areas to help break up the fat for easier removal. Finally, a cannula is inserted and that unwanted fatty tissue is removed with the help of a suction machine.

It’s important to note that liposuction doesn’t require any large incisions or an extended hospital stay, but you can still expect some downtime after the procedure. You will be sent home with specific care instructions following your surgery to ensure quick and proper healing.

Expectations After Surgery

While there shouldn’t be any serious complications following the procedure, most patients will experience swelling, and bruising.

To help your body keep its new shape, you will be required to wear a compression garment for six weeks. You will also be instructed to return to our clinic once a week to change your dressings. While no driving or strenuous physical activity is permitted during the first two weeks, you will be back to your normal routines in no time at all.

If you’re ready to finally reach your aesthetic goals and feel confident in your own body, trust in Dr Ritz for your liposuction needs.
