It holds the windows to your soul and shows your smile to the world every day. Your face is by far the most defining characteristic you have, but visible signs of aging can cause you to feel self-conscious about its appearance. While dermal fillers and injectables are able to eliminate wrinkles and frown lines, the results are only temporary.
For those seeking facial rejuvenation that is more long-term, a facelift can be a great option. This procedure can effectively lift loose, sagging skin and eliminate your deep crease lines. For some people, the thought of a surgical operation can be intimidating. When you know what to expect ahead of time though, it can help to ease your worries.
Managing Your First Couple Days
A facelift by Dr Morris Ritz is a popular choice for those hoping to impart a more youthful-looking appearance. Before you decide to undergo this surgery, we want to give you as much knowledge as possible so you can know what to expect.
While a consultation is a great way to find out if you are an ideal candidate for the surgery, it’s also an educational experience to learn about the procedure and discuss post-operative care. During this initial visit, Dr Ritz will take the necessary time to explain what the recovery process will be like and answer your questions and concerns.
Immediately following your surgery, you can expect to spend the night in a private recovery room to allow us to monitor your progress. The next day, we will remove the drains that were inserted to help collect and dispose of your fluids. After, we place you with a bandage and dressing to help control any facial swelling, you are free to return to the comfort of your own home to rest and recover.
Following Your Instructions
As with most surgeries, you can expect the first few days following the facelift to be a bit challenging. During your recovery period, it will be crucial to follow the special care instructions given to you by Dr Ritz. We know downtime is not ideal, but our guidelines are what will help ensure your proper healing.
Most people feel well enough to return to work after about two weeks, but this will depend on the nature of your job. As you heal, you can expect your face to be pretty swollen so we recommend restricting your driving privileges for the first week or two.
Other than following our instructions, the most important factor in your post-operative care will be to limit your physical activities. Any strenuous exercises, heavy lifting or contact sports will need to be put on hold for at least the first six weeks after your surgery.
After about one week, you will have a follow-up visit with Dr Ritz, where he will check your healing progress and address any post-operative concerns you may have.
