05 Dec What is a Brow Lift?
Have you noticed changes in the upper area of your face over time that make you look older than you feel? While this is a natural occurrence, it doesn’t have to be one you merely accept. Surgical procedures can often reverse signs of ageing with natural, long-lasting results. When the concerns appear to be focused on the upper part of the face, an eyebrow lift may be an option to consider.
Changes to the Upper Face
A brow or forehead lift focuses on the area of the face from the hairline to the eyebrows, turning back the clock to rejuvenate and refresh the appearance. Some of the changes that occur in this area include:
- Horizontal wrinkles across the forehead
- Deep vertical grooves between the eyebrows (frown lines)
- Loose skin that leads to hooding over the eyes
- Sagging, heavy brow line that makes you look perpetually tired, worried or angry
If you are concerned about the appearance of any of these ageing symptoms, schedule a consultation with Dr Morris Ritz to find out if an eyebrow lift might help you achieve your aesthetic goals. In some cases, Dr Ritz may recommend combining this procedure with an eyelid lift, also known as blepharoplasty, to enhance your results further.
Explaining the Surgery
At your initial consultation with Dr Ritz, he will go over the surgical process of a brow lift, so you know what to expect during and after your procedure. The extent of the surgery will depend on how much correction you need, but it is usually done under general anaesthesia. Incisions are placed in the hairline and may consist of small lines at the temples or a more extended incision that runs across the top of the forehead.
Through the incisions, Dr Ritz will reposition tissue and muscle to create a natural look before removing loose skin and smoothing remaining skin over the area. This process eliminates both the horizontal wrinkles and the frown lines between the eyebrows while raising the brow to create a fresher appearance. Incisions are meticulously sutured closed to minimise your scarring after the procedure.
Recovering from an Eyebrow Lift
A brow lift is typically performed as a day surgery, which means you won’t have to stay overnight under supervision after your procedure. Dr Ritz will send you home with a dressing around your head, which will remain for five to seven days. He will also see you every week for the first few weeks of your recovery to ensure your incision is healing well. While you will likely be up and around right away, you will need to wait about one week before returning to work and much longer before resuming strenuous exercise.
Once the bruising and swelling from your surgery subside, usually within a few weeks, the full outcome of your brow lift will become apparent. The skin on the forehead should be smoother and wrinkle-free. The brow will also have a slightly raised position that opens the eyes and produces a refreshed appearance overall. Your new look should last for many years, as long as you take good care of your skin by using high-quality topical products and protecting it from the sun without fail.
If you are not satisfied with your reflection in the mirror due to changes in your upper face, an eyebrow lift might be a good choice for turning back the clock and restoring your youthful appearance. To learn more about this procedure, contact the office of Dr Morris Ritz today at 03 9508 9508.
